What Can I Recycle At New Paltz?
ACCEPTABLE ITEMS
- PAPER PRODUCTS
- Newspaper
- Magazines & Catalogues
- Computer, Copy, Fax Paper
- Loose-leaf
- Phonebooks
- Junk Mail
- Envelopes (even with a plastic window)
- Wrapping Paper
- Greeting Cards
- All Thin Cardboard (cereal, pasta, cracker and other food boxes, shoe boxes, tissue boxes, paper egg cartons, soda and beer packaging, paper towel rolls)
- Corrugated Cardboard (shipping boxes, water bottle shipping tray)
- Brown Paper Bags
Please Note: Flatten cardboard, do not tie together, keep loose. Also no wax or plastic coated paper products
COMMINGLED PRODUCTS
- Aluminum Cans (example: soda cans)
- Tin Cans (example: soup/canned food)
- Glass Bottles
- Plastic #1,#2,#4,#5,#7, any shape
- Plastic Bottles (example: shampoo, water)
- Plastic Tubs (yogurt, salad containers)
- Plastic Jugs (milk, juice)
Tip: Look for the recycling symbol printed or stamped onto the container, if the number is #1, #2, #4, #5, #7 it is recyclable.
Note: Remove caps (no caps!) rinse all containers so there is no food residue

- Any Material that has a food residue
- Paper Towels/Tissues/Napkins
- Waxed or Plastic Coated Paper or Boxes
- Pizza Boxes
- Tin Foil Wrapping or Pie Tins

- Prescription Drug Bottles
- Saran Wrap
- Potato Chip bags
- Black Microwave Plastic Containers
- Styrofoam
- Automotive Fluid Bottles
- Herbicide/Pesticide Containers
- Flower Vases/Drinking Glasses
- Window/ Broken Glass
- Scrap Metal
- NO #3 plastic
- NO # 6 plastic
- Plastic Bags (recycling station available at local grocery store)
- Light Bulbs (recycle in RA office, by trading old light bulb for a new CFL)
- Electronics (recycle outdated and/or broken electronics/wires in the We Recycle box in RA office)
- Cell Phones (working phones will be donated, broken phones recycled, deposit all into the We Recycle box in RA office)
- Clothing (donate it to Planet Aid, bins are all around campus)
